Men’s Senior Second Team Ground out a Win in Quarter Final of Reserve D Championship

Eadestown men’s 2nd team ground out a well-deserved win against a strong robust Robertstown team in Sarsfields’.

Eadestown 1-11 Robertstown 1-9.

Twenty four Boys in Blue travelled to Sarsfields on Tuesday evening 18 th August to play Robertstown in the Qrt Final of the Reserve D Championship. Match started at 7.15 pm where both teams taking 10 minutes before any scores were chalked up on the board. Robertstown were first to get out of the traps by scoring 0-2, at which stage Eadestown got in on the act by notching up 0-5. Robertstown missed taking 5 easy scores and had two goal chances only to be saved by Mickey Quinn. Eadestown then got into their scoring ways running out with a comfortable lead with a half time score of 1-6 to Robertstown 0-3.

However Robertstown piled on the pressure in the 2nd half and were duly rewarded with a score of 1-6 and drawing within 0-1 of the lads in Blue with 9 minutes left to play. Eadestown boys dug deep and notched up 0-5 in the 2nd half to win the game by a 0-2 margin with a final score of Eadestown 1-11 to Robertstown 1-9 after 5 minutes of extra time. Real Club loyalty was shown by Paddy O’ Brien who travelled all the way from Cavan to score 1-1 and Alan Casey who travelled from Galway city to settle down the backs, which were now under pressure early in the 2nd half. Adam Fitzsimons was man of the match for the lads in Blue with all of the players making the players putting in a good team performance. This team has also now lost 6 players to the 1 st team over the year, where Killian Fitzpatrick, Shane Dunne and Johnny Deane helped our senior side obtain a good win over St Kevin’s to maintain Senior Championship status for 2016 and as a result were not available to play for the 2nd team V Robertstown. So there is now a great incentive for these young players to burst on to the senior club scene in the county.

Team List Mickey Quinn, Paul Hyland, John Fitzgibbon, Shane Malone, Adam Fitzsimmons, Mark Dowling, Andy Kelly, Marcus Doyle 0-1, Niall Cummins, Cian Malone 0-1, Seanie Sullivan, Captain, 0-3, Tommy Dolan 0-1, Paddy O’Brien, 1-1, Ritchie O’Neill 0-3, Paddy Fleming, Alan Casey, Mark Prendergast 0-1, Jack Harney, Aaron Fitzpatrick, John Creighton, Niall Gorman, Daire Woods, Ciaran Woods, Tom Harney.

The Boys in Blue now have now earned their place in the real business end of the Championship and will need to lift their game and performance considerably against Clogherinkoe to win their place in the final.

Eadestown now play Clogherinkoe in Clane on Monday next 31st August at 18.45 in Semi-Final of Champsionship.
